National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. All month, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness. It is an opportunity to shine a light on mental health, to end stigma associated with needing and accessing help, and to advocate and promote programs, services and strategies that reduce suicide in New Jersey and around the world.
According to the World Health Organization, a person dies by suicide every 40 seconds. Every death is a tragedy that is felt by family, friends and entire communities. Every death is preventable. In recognition of the current youth mental health crisis, the New Jersey Department of Children and Families has shared the following Public Service Announcement. Click here to watch.
