HELP US HELP OUR CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE | Part 3 of 3

The Children Are Blossoming

A longtime Treatment Foster parent with Children’s Aid and Family Services, Naomi has cared for children of all ages and is gifted at helping them work through trauma. “I am a storyteller by nature,” she says. “It’s such an effective way to teach them because the children remember my stories and the lessons they learn from them.”

Naomi has been fostering siblings recently, a 14-year-old and an 8-year-old. Both children have intellectual and developmental disabilities in addition to trauma caused by neglect and multiple family placements. When they first came to her home they were anxious and acted out frequently. Naomi worked diligently to ensure they had the many supports they needed and a safe and nurturing environment to call home. “I give them time and attention and they are blossoming,” she says.

The children have been thriving in her care, feeling calmer, and more confident. Their behaviors have improved, so they will attend basketball camp for the first time ever next summer.
