Celebrating 125 Years

June 6, 2024 – (Paramus, NJ) – Children’s Aid and Family Services, a Paramus-based non-profit human services agency, hosted a Virtual 5K walk/run to celebrate its 125th anniversary. Members of its STRIVE day program took laps around the agency’s building to mark the kick-off of the five-day event.

Paul Aronsohn, Ombudsman for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Their Families attended the event along with agency supporters who cheered on the members of STRIVE, the agency’s structured day program for adults 21 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Over the past 125 years, the agency has supported hundreds of thousands of vulnerable individuals in the community. Its services range from providing foster care and adoption to comprehensive support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as substance misuse prevention, education, and peer recovery supports.

“We are proud to celebrate this tremendous milestone with the community members we serve and our steadfast supporters,” says Shavonda E. Sumter, President and CEO. “Our ability to carry out this vital work wouldn’t be possible without the community’s unwavering support over the past 125 years. I am especially grateful to Paul Aronsohn for joining us today and for his leadership.”
