Adoptive Parent Training

Prospective adoptive families are educated on the adoption issues related to adopting an older child, such as feelings of abandonment, loss, and rejection. The families are required to participate in 27 hours of PRIDE training, which is a state mandated training. In addition to PRIDE, the families have the unique experience of meeting the waiting children in an 8 week Path Internship. During the internship, the families volunteer at the CAFS Path group homes to meet some of the waiting children and learn about their unique needs. The families not only have an opportunity to interact with the children they learn therapeutic strategies and parenting techniques that are best used for caring for older children.
